"Attention Good People of
England, our neighbours to the North. As you may know Spain has always held
tightly to the tenants of Catholicism by obeying God's orders to
spread Christianity in the New World--a mission in which England shares as do
all people in Christendom. It has come to our attention however that acts of
piracy by so-called citizens of England threaten Spain's divine mission in the
New World. It is our greatest hope that the people of your nation will repent
for their sins and return to the straight and narrow path. For this reason we ask that England pay an indemnity of no less than 900,00 florins, the amount estimated to have been stolen over one year's time."
By the Grace of God,
Phillip II
